Dean Podmore Shoots Adidas Olympic Campaign with Jess Fox Using Outex

Australian commercial photographer Dean Podmore used an Outex underwater camera housing to shoot the Adidas “You Got This” Olympic campaign featuring Paris flag-bearer and gold medalist kayaker Jess Fox — fully submerged in rapids, with professional camera control and image quality intact.

Photographing elite athletes in and around water presents unusual challenges: professional image quality, full camera control, lens flexibility, mobility, and reliable waterproofing — all at once. Podmore’s work is a real-world example of how a commercial photographer can incorporate demanding underwater imagery into a major sports campaign without changing their core camera workflow.

Dean on Shooting the Campaign with Outex

“Hey team! I thought I would write to you to let you know where I’ve recently utilised my housing on a project I really enjoyed — with Australian Olympian Jessica Fox. This was shot a couple of months ago for an Adidas campaign here in Australia. In order to get the shot, I was submerged in the rapids along with my camera wrapped up in the Outex set up. I appreciate you keeping my equipment waterproof and letting me get some pretty dynamic and visually striking images which the client loved. Thanks for making something so simple, affordable, and universal. As you probably know too well, photographers’ kits are constantly evolving and require a malleable approach when it comes to underwater set-ups — and the Outex really services this perfectly.”

How Dean Discovered Outex

“A few years back for an H&M apparel campaign, they wanted the ability to shoot everything on older film cameras. I did some research and Outex was the obvious choice. We ended up with two Outex kits on set for a Nikon F5 and Nikon F6 — and it all ran super smoothly. I was lucky to keep one of those set-ups and still use it for certain briefs today: an Adidas sustainability campaign, and more recently the Jess Fox shoot for the Australian portion of ‘You Got This’. It’s always with me in one of my kits — just in case the weather turns bad, talent is splashing towards the lens, or I need to jump in the water for something totally different.”
