Lucas Gilman — Adventure Photographer, Filmmaker & Outex Ambassador

Lucas Gilman is one of the leading adventure photographers and filmmakers in the industry, based in Pismo Beach, CA. His powerful, color-driven images run in top publications and advertising campaigns worldwide. A love of adventure and an addiction to color define his distinct style across photography and filmmaking.

Lucas documents subjects ranging from expedition kayaking in India and Costa Rica to surfing in Brazil, backcountry skiing in Wyoming, Alaska, and South America. He has covered international events including the Tour de France, Kentucky Derby, ESPN X-Games, IRONMAN, and NFL Playoffs. His advertising and editorial clients span the globe: Land Rover, Nikon, SanDisk, Red Bull, G-Technology, Garmin, GORE-TEX, National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, ESPN Magazine, and Outside Magazine.

Lucas was featured on the NBC Today Show and MSNBC for documenting the second-largest waterfall ever successfully descended in a kayak, and appeared on Good Morning America sharing his short film on the first successful descent of Abiqua Falls in Oregon. CNN profiled Lucas during primetime, highlighting his Abiqua Falls footage and behind-the-scenes work. He was also a finalist in the 2014 Red Bull Illume worldwide photography competition, which received more than 32,000 submissions, and was featured by Apple in their keynote launching the new Mac Pro. He has since documented the largest waterfall ever run — the 189-foot Palouse Falls in Washington State.

The Outex x Nikon Z: World's First Consumer RAW Video Underwater

Lucas chose the Outex Camera Pro Kit to waterproof the Nikon Z6 for a landmark underwater production — the world's first consumer RAW video shoot, debuted at NAB 2019 in partnership with Atomos and Apple. The lightweight, modular Outex system allowed Lucas to use the Nikon Z6 with the Atomos Ninja RAW recorder underwater, a combination impossible with traditional rigid housings.
