Outex Exposed-Thread Front Glass Port — For Polarizers & External Filters

This is a specialty version of the standard Outex flat front glass port, with two specific differences that make it the right choice for photographers who use polarizing filters or other external filters in front of their lens.

If you don’t use external filters or polarizers, the standard flat front port is the right choice for you.

How It Differs from the Standard Flat Port

  1. Exposed rear threads — On the standard flat port, the threads that attach to the lens are recessed inside the port body. On this version, those threads are exposed, which changes how the port sits on certain lens configurations. See our FAQ & Questions page for technical details.
  2. External front threads for polarizers and filters — The front face of the port has exposed threads, allowing you to screw a standard polarizing filter, ND filter, or other photographic filter directly onto the port — in front of the glass — without removing the housing.

External Thread Sizes by Lens Size

The external front thread size varies depending on the lens size you select:

  • 49–72mm lens sizes — External thread is 77mm, a standard filter size widely available from all major filter brands.
  • 77, 82, and 86mm lens sizes — External thread is 89mm, which is not an industry-standard filter size. To use standard 95mm filters or polarizers with these sizes, add the Outex 89–95mm Step-Up Adaptor, available in Parts & Accessories.

Key Features

  • Optical glass construction — not plastic or acrylic
  • Nano-coated with an oleophobic & hydrophobic film — repels water droplets above water for cleaner shots
  • External front threads accept standard polarizing filters, ND filters, and other photographic filters
  • Compatible with all Outex covers (Entry and Pro, Regular and Large)
  • Available in filter thread sizes 49mm to 86mm
  • Waterproof to 10 metres / 33 feet

How to Find Your Filter Thread Size

Your lens’s filter thread size is printed on the lens barrel or lens cap, preceded by a “&diameter;” symbol (e.g. &diameter;77). If your size is not listed or you’re unsure, contact us before ordering — step-up rings and other solutions are sometimes available.

Compatibility

  • Works with all Outex covers: Entry (100X), Pro Regular (110), and Pro Large (130)
  • Fully interchangeable with the standard flat front port on any cover
  • Compatible with all Outex Pro Kits and Entry Kits

Dome Size Guide

**120mm dome** — Compact, lighter, more portable. Great value for most underwater and split-level work.

**180mm dome** — Larger dome = better optical correction, especially for wide-angle lenses and split-level photography. Recommended for professional and demanding use. Heavier and bulkier than the 120mm.
