Our Team — The People Behind Outex
Our Team
Outex was founded in Los Angeles in 2010 by two people who believed professional-grade waterproof camera protection shouldn’t require buying a new housing for every body and lens, excels in image performance, adds no bulk or weight to the camera gear, and is affordable. Here’s more about the team behind the product and company.

JR deSouza — Co-founder
Commercial Development · Content Strategy · Imaging Technology
JR deSouza is an entrepreneur, product leader, former Olympic swimmer, and co-founder of Outex. His career has centered on turning ideas into products, brands, and businesses that reach customers around the world.
Before launching Outex, JR built his career across consumer electronics, digital media, entertainment, and technology, including leadership roles with companies such as Samsung, TiVo, Philips, Disney, and DreamWorks Animation. His work has spanned product development, user experience, international business development, marketing, licensing, and go-to-market strategy, giving him a broad perspective on how innovative products move from concept to market.
JR’s connection to Outex is also deeply personal. A lifelong athlete and outdoor enthusiast, he represented Brazil in swimming at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games and later became a world champion and world-record holder. That background helped shape his appreciation for equipment that performs reliably in demanding environments while remaining simple, portable, and accessible.
Together with his cousin and fellow co-founder Roberto Miglioli, JR helped transform the original Outex concept into a patented, modular waterproof camera system and an international brand serving photographers, filmmakers, athletes, adventurers, and professional content creators.
Today, JR leads Outex with the same philosophy that has guided the company from the beginning: help creators protect the gear they already own, expand where they can use it, and capture images that would otherwise be difficult—or impossible—to create.

Roberto Miglioli — Co-founder
Engineering · Product Development · Manufacturing
Roberto Miglioli is a mechanical engineer, inventor, entrepreneur, outdoor enthusiast, and co-founder of Outex. His combination of engineering expertise, photography, and a lifelong love of the outdoors helped inspire the original idea behind the Outex waterproof camera housing system.
The concept began with a simple challenge: Roberto wanted to bring his camera along on off-road trips, hikes, and outdoor adventures without exposing valuable equipment to rain, mud, dust, and other harsh conditions. After seeing the limitations of improvised camera protection, he began experimenting with materials and designs that could protect a camera while still allowing the photographer to operate it normally. Those early experiments ultimately evolved into the flexible, modular protection system that became Outex.
Together with his cousin and fellow co-founder JR deSouza, Roberto transformed that idea into a patented system designed around a different philosophy from traditional rigid housings: make professional camera protection universal, compact, lightweight, adaptable, and accessible across changing cameras and lenses. Their shared passion for photography traces back to their family, including an interest in photography passed down from their grandfather.
Roberto continues to bring an engineer’s perspective to Outex—focused on materials, manufacturing, functionality, and solving real-world problems for photographers and filmmakers. From the earliest flexible camera covers to today’s expanding ecosystem for cameras, lenses, smartphones, and professional imaging equipment, his approach remains at the heart of the Outex mission: help creators take the equipment they already love into places it otherwise couldn’t go.
