Over/Under Perfection – Amunì Media's Cabrinha Wing Shoot in Sicily

Slice the Surface: Amunì Media’s Over/Under Cabrinha Wing Shoot Using Outex Housings

When waves whisper and the sun drips gold across a glassy Mediterranean morning, Amunì Media’s founder and director of photography, Laci Kobulsky, steps into his element. Born from a raw passion for action filmmaking and rooted in western Sicily between Marsala and Trapani, Amunì Media embodies the bold invitation of its name—“amunì”—a local Sicilian expletive that whispers “let’s go.”

The Vision: Over/Under Mastery

The Cabrinha wing collection shoot presented a technical and aesthetic puzzle: how to capture the same wing in both air and water—an over-and-under—or “split” shot. The solution? A dome port paired with a flat, mirror-like sea—only achievable under calm offshore wind conditions.

Laci’s approach was precise. He chose the optimal time and place where the sea lay still, then strapped on his Outex waterproof housing with optical glass dome port (perfect for this exact scenario), plunging the lens halfway to invite that boundary between worlds. With stability and clarity, the dome port sculpted the shot: wings slicing air above, foil gliding below.

Tools of the Trade: The Outex Advantage

Why Outex? Because in Sicily’s shifting marine environments, reliability is everything. Outex housings offer rugged waterproofing for virtually any camera (film, dslr, mirrorless, cinema, etc.) without sacrificing accessibility to all controls thru the tactile-rich cover. And it offers superior professional imaging clarity.

In addition, Outex ports (flat and domes), which are all made of optical glass, conform to each lens, which positions them optimally for optical results. The Dome itself is universally compatible, and the adaptors and clamps position them to conform to each other. In other words, the dome adaptors and clamps position the dome in accordance to the physical specifications of each lens, positioning them for ideal imaging results.

For Laci, whose editing ethos emphasizes simple cuts, natural color, and emotional sync with soundtrack, having a transparent, dependable tool is essential.

Capturing the Moment

Laci alternated between shooting dynamic video—like in the YouTube clip from the session—and stills. He even captured moments from photographer James Boulding during his breaks, blending candor with creativity.

Reflections & Impact

This over/under Cabrinha shoot wasn’t just about technique—it was storytelling through transitions, through silhouettes bisected by surface tension. It’s a distilled example of how Amunì Media’s local roots and Laci’s international experience (via Kobulsky Media) converge to create visuals that feel spontaneous yet meticulously crafted.

By marrying an affectionate sense of place with precision gear like Outex, they invite audiences to look twice, beyond surface, beyond expectation.
