Outex System Configurations: Tripods, Flash, Tethering, and Lighting Underwater
Mar 10, 2019
The Outex Pro Kit supports virtually any lighting, triggering, tethering, or mounting configuration you may need through modular add-on accessories. Like your camera system, Outex is designed to grow with your needs — you add covers with different openings and different accessory parts to build the configuration that suits your shoot.
One important note: while the Outex cover material does not block wireless signals (RF, WiFi, IR), water does. Wireless triggers and remotes will not function reliably when fully submerged. The Outex system addresses this through wired cable adaptor openings in the Pro Cover (T-variants) that enable underwater connections for triggers, tethering, power, audio, and video. For a full explanation of wireless vs. wired underwater, see the Flash, Strobes, and Triggers guide.
Flash and Strobe Configurations
Outex supports hot-shoe-mounted flash, detached strobes, and tethered strobe setups — both above water (wireless) and fully submerged (wired). The F Cover variant provides a dedicated opening for a hot-shoe-mounted flash or trigger in addition to the standard cover openings.
Here is an example configuration from renowned underwater photographer Brett Stanley, combining triggers, strobes, and tethering in a single shoot:

Here is a further lighting example from commercial photographer Marco Gutierrez, demonstrating a full strobe and tethering setup for an underwater portrait shoot:

Tethering: HDMI, USB, Sync Cables, and More
Outex supports wired tethering through cable adaptor openings in the Pro Cover T-variants. This enables live view, data transfer, power, audio, and video connections underwater via HDMI, USB, sync cables, and other standard connectors.

Outex data tethering kit — full wired connection for live view and data transfer underwater.
Tripod Mounting
Outex waterproofs your camera's tripod mount and is compatible with virtually any tripod system — from standard mounts and brackets to specialised underwater tripod rigs. The tripod mount opening is available in Pro Cover T-variants.

Combined Configurations
You can combine any of the above in a single setup — for example, a tripod-mounted camera with a wired light tray, above-water wireless strobes, and HDMI tethering simultaneously. The Outex modular system supports this through the combination of F Cover openings and T-variant cable adaptor openings.
