Outex Cover Size Guide: Which Underwater Housing Cover Is Right for Your Camera?

Choosing the right Outex cover size is the first step to building your underwater housing system. There are currently three cover sizes available, each designed for a different range of camera bodies and use cases. This guide explains the differences, who each size is for, and how the accessory system works across all sizes.

Cover Size Quick Reference

Cover Size Code Best For Rear Glass
Entry Cover 100 Basic, beginner cameras & lenses No rear glass opening. Some limits
Pro Cover Regular 110 All/most cameras & lenses (80%+ of the market) Yes. Full control and precision
Pro Cover Large 130 Large bodie cameras, battery grips, large, long lenses over 200mm Yes. Full control and precision

Important: Larger covers can be used with smaller cameras, but not the other way around. All covers are fully backwards compatible — any Outex front port, rear glass, and accessory works with any cover size.

Entry Cover (100)

The Entry Cover is part of the Entry Kit and is designed for beginners. It does not have a rear glass opening, which limits some functionality compared to the Pro covers. It is suited to compact and mirrorless cameras and works with DSLRs, but is not recommended for users who need full rear-glass access or advanced accessory configurations.

Pro Cover Regular (110)

The Pro Cover Regular is the most common size and fits over 80% of cameras on the market, including most DSLRs, mirrorless systems, and film cameras. It ships as part of the Pro Kit and includes a rear glass opening for full functionality.

Examples of cameras that fit the Pro Cover Regular (110):

  • Canon 6D + 24-105mm f/4
  • Canon 5D Mk II + 70-200mm f/2.8
  • Nikon D5500 + 35mm
  • Sony A7R III + 16-35mm f/2.8

Accessory Openings: T1, T2, T3 Variants

Both Pro Cover Regular and Pro Cover Large are available in variants with additional openings for accessories such as tripod mounts, cable adaptors, tethering connections, and lighting. The number in the variant name indicates how many additional openings are included:

Variant Additional Openings Use Case
Pro Cover 0 Standard waterproofing, no accessories
Pro Cover T1 1 One accessory connection (e.g. tripod or tethering)
Pro Cover T2 2 Two accessory connections
Pro Cover T3 3 Three accessory connections

All T-variants are available in both Regular (110) and Large (130) sizes. All covers are backwards compatible — existing Outex front glass ports, rear glass, and accessories work interchangeably across all Pro cover sizes and variants. The Outex system is modular: mix and match covers, ports, and accessories as your needs evolve.
