Yes, Outex floats — even with a heavy camera and lens inside. The trapped air inside the sealed cover creates enough buoyancy to offset the weight of the gear. You can control how much it floats by adjusting how much air you seal inside. Dome ports and large lenses affect buoyancy, and wrist straps are recommended as a safety backup.

Outex is rated to 10 metres (33 feet) underwater and is IP68 certified. The depth limit is primarily about camera operability under water pressure, not the waterproof seal itself. Customers have used Outex beyond the rated depth, but operability of buttons and dials may become erratic past 10 metres. Returning to a shallower depth restores normal operation. Outex is not designed for scuba diving.

Outex originally shipped with a blue (1st generation) cover. The current default is a clear (2nd generation) cover. The clear cover improves on the original with full transparency, easier installation and removal, greater durability, and resistance to oxidation. Both generations are 100% backwards compatible and interchangeable with all Outex glass ports, rear glass, and accessories.
