In a series of exercises, drills included Figure-8, Broad & Close Reach, Quick Stop, and Drop Sails & Motor attempts so they could time them, evaluate differences, scenarios, and practice real-world situations in an educational environment.
The crew selected Outex to help film much of the footage for the event, which took place off the coast of San Diego, between the Coronado Islands, San Diego, and Tijuana.
According to Eddie Frank, of California Coastal Cruising, "The wind and seas were lighter than we had hoped, but thanks in large part to the crew of experts we gathered, the results for the day could not have been more successful. For example, the calm waters are "easier" than some circumstances for the actual rescue, but allowed for better footage for details like propeller safety that we may have not been able to record otherwise."
Eddie is an experienced sailor himself. He's been living on a sailboat with Guinevere King for several years. As a commercial cinematographer and photographer, he says: "If you are a boater, you should check out these Outex Pro Kit products. The housings are flexible, compact, and compatible with almost all brands and sizes of cameras. I’ve been using one for several years and am very happy with how well it travels and functions. It really is a great product for all the yacht photographers and sailing vloggers out there! We will be posting an in-depth review of this camera housing soon."
Several cameras were used to capture the footage, including a DJI drone, multiple Sony Cameras A7R, A7S, and A9 mirrorless cameras. Lenses included 16-35mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8, 12-24mm f/4, and Sigma 24mm f/1.4. Outex Pro Kits used for multiple cameras, and various front ports, including Outex flat and Dome for portability and lightweight.
We'll keep you posted.
