About Outex
Professional waterproof camera housings, built for the gear you already own.
Outex makes the world’s most versatile universal waterproof camera housing system. Founded in Los Angeles, California in 2010, Outex was built on a simple but powerful idea: professional-grade waterproof protection shouldn’t require buying a new housing for every camera body and lens combination. It should be universal, lightweight, optically precise, and affordable enough that any serious photographer or filmmaker can use it.
Today, Outex products are trusted by award-winning photographers, cinematographers, production studios, athletes, and adventurers on every continent — from arctic expeditions and underground rivers to fashion shoots, military applications, and Olympic competitions.
Why Outex
- Universal fit — works across all major camera brands, bodies, and lens combinations, including film, DSLR, mirrorless, and medium format systems
- Optical glass ports and domes — professional image quality, not acrylic
- Waterproof to 10 meters / 33 feet
- No added bulk or weight — travel-friendly and packable
- Full camera control — the tactile, stretchy material maintains access to every button, dial, and function through the cover
- Modular and expandable — front glass ports, dome ports, tethering cables, and tripod add-ons work across the system
- Used by pros worldwide — trusted in the most demanding environments on the planet
Our Story
Outex was co-founded by cousins JR deSouza and Roberto Miglioli, who shared a passion for photography and a frustration with the limitations of existing waterproof housing solutions.
Roberto, a mechanical engineer and outdoor enthusiast, wanted to bring his camera on off-road adventures, hikes, and into rain and surf without the expense and bulk of a rigid underwater housing. His early experiments with flexible, stretchy waterproof materials — materials that could wrap around any camera and still allow full tactile control — became the foundation of the Outex concept.
JR, a product leader and former Olympic swimmer who represented Brazil at the 1992 Barcelona Games, brought the commercial vision, product development expertise, and global perspective needed to turn that concept into a patented, internationally distributed product. Together, they built Outex into a brand that serves photographers and filmmakers across more than 50 countries.
The Outex patent covers the unique combination of a flexible waterproof housing with interchangeable optical glass ports — a system that delivers professional image quality while remaining compact, universal, and practical enough to take anywhere.
