Photographer and visual artist Ben Von Wong is known for creating ambitious images designed to capture attention while raising awareness of environmental and social issues. For his ocean-plastic conservation project with Greenpeace, Von Wong collaborated with cinematographer Valentina Vee to create striking underwater visual content using the Outex waterproof camera housing system.

The project demonstrates how professional cameras can be taken into challenging aquatic environments while retaining access to the camera controls and lenses needed for demanding creative productions. Outex's flexible, modular design, optical glass ports, and broad camera and lens compatibility give photographers and cinematographers the freedom to create professional imagery above, below, and at the surface of the water.

Von Wong uses his imaging medium and creativity to make an impact - and a difference, by highlighting the problem in ways that get attention, then offering ways people can behave differently to make a difference.

What Is Outex? Why Do So Many Poeple Use It?

Outex is a universal waterproof camera housing system that uses a flexible waterproof membrane, interchangeable optical glass ports, lens adapters, and sealed controls to protect DSLR, mirrorless, film, medium-format, and cinema cameras while preserving access to camera controls.

Ben and Valentina relied on Outex for the outdoor and underwater imaging needs because its universal camera compatibility, optical image quality, reliability, affordability, and travel friendliness. Outex is compatible with multiple camera brands and models, so they can shoot in a variety of situations, from still to video, using different camera models and lenses, with the same Outex underwater housing system for any of them. The Outex optical glass ports (not acrylic or plastic) also delivers the best optical performance in the industry - even compared to much more expensive hard-shell cases that use acrylic. And they can take it on the road with ease, adding virtually no weight or bulk to their travel gear.

2026 Update

The original shoot relied on Sony alpha micro-four-thirds and mirrorless cameras, in combination with DSLR Canon video cameras. Since then, both artists have continued to use Outex with their various mirrorless and cinema cameras and a variety of lenses to pursue their endeavors. That's one of the advantages of the Outex system: the same housing (Camera Pro Kit) can be used with a variety of cameras over time, even as new cameras are introduced into the market. So whether it's a Sony A7III, A1, or A9, the same Outex camera case can be used for all of them, as well as other brands.
