Sony A6700 Underwater Housing & Waterproof Camera Case Compatibility Guide

Yes — the Sony A6700 is compatible with the Outex waterproof camera housing system.

The Sony Alpha A6700 is a compact APS-C mirrorless camera that combines high-resolution still photography, sophisticated autofocus and advanced 4K video capabilities in a relatively small body. Pairing it with the universal Outex Camera Pro Kit gives photographers and filmmakers a lightweight way to take the A6700 into water, rain, surf, snow, sand, mud and other environments where an unprotected camera would be at risk.

Unlike conventional hard underwater housings built around one specific camera body, Outex is a flexible, modular system designed to work across cameras and lenses. That means your Outex system not only works with your Sony A6700 but with any other APS-C, DSLR, Mirrorless, film, medium format, or cinema camera. All while maintaining tactile, operational, and functional control over all buttons, settings, etc. It's like a doctor operating with gloves, but the glove is on the camera.

Outex has been in business since 2010 and has thousands of users worldwide, from production companies and free lance professionals working for RedBull, Netflix, etc., to enthusiasts and the armed forces. Visit the Outex YouTube, Instagram, or other social media pages to see examples of the product in use.

Why Use the Sony A6700 Underwater?

The Sony A6700 is particularly well suited to photographers and hybrid creators who want professional imaging capabilities without carrying a large full-frame camera system.

Its 26-megapixel APS-C Exmor R CMOS sensor provides plenty of resolution for still photography, while Sony's dedicated AI processing and subject-recognition autofocus make the A6700 particularly attractive for photographing moving subjects. Sony also equips the camera with 5-axis in-body image stabilization.

Those capabilities become especially useful around water, where both photographer and subject may be moving.

Think surf photography, swimming, sailing, kayaking, fishing, watersports, wildlife, adventure travel, underwater portraits and split-level over/under photography. The A6700's compact body can make the complete camera-and-housing combination easier to transport and maneuver than a larger professional DSLR or full-frame cinema setup.

Video shooters have another reason to consider the combination. The A6700 offers 4K recording up to 120p and 10-bit 4:2:2 recording, while 4K up to 60p can take advantage of oversampled capture. This makes the camera useful for capturing fast-moving action as well as cinematic underwater sequences.

Why Outex Instead of a Camera-Specific Hard Housing?

A conventional underwater housing is typically designed around one particular camera body. Change cameras and you may need another housing.

Outex takes a different approach.

The patented Outex housing is flexible and tactile, allowing access to camera and lens controls through the cover. The Camera Pro Kit uses optical glass at the front and rear, allows viewing through the camera's LCD or viewfinder, and provides a modular platform that can be expanded for tripod mounting, lighting, triggers and tethering. The system is waterproof to 10 meters/33 feet.

For an A6700 owner, this means the waterproofing system isn't tied exclusively to the A6700.

Move later to another Sony Alpha body—or even Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm or another compatible camera—and many of the same Outex components can continue to be used.

Choosing a Lens and Port for the Sony A6700

Here's the important part:

The camera determines the housing configuration, but the lens determines the front port.

Don't choose an Outex front port simply because you own an A6700. Choose it according to the filter-thread diameter of the actual Sony E-mount lens you intend to use. Outex offers flat optical-glass ports in standard sizes from 49 mm through 105 mm. Step-up-ring combinations can accommodate additional lens configurations.

For example:

Sony A6700 → E-mount lens → lens filter-thread diameter → corresponding Outex optical-glass port

This modular approach means you can use multiple lenses with the same camera and change the appropriate Outex components rather than buying a new camera housing.

What Type of Lens Should You Use?

Your ideal lens depends on what you're photographing.

Wide-angle lenses are especially useful for underwater scenes, surf, swimmers, marine subjects and environmental portraits because they allow you to work relatively close to the subject while maintaining a broad field of view.

Standard and moderate-wide lenses can work well for portraits, swimming, pool photography, boating and general watersports. Please often use telezoom lenses for birdwatching, wildlife, sports, and action photography, and you can even select the Large cover for an extended/zoom lens to use with your camera.

Specialty and fisheye lenses can be paired with an appropriate dome configuration when the desired shot requires a very wide field of view.

Before ordering, check the filter-thread diameter printed on your lens or lens cap. If you're uncertain, provide Outex with your Sony A6700 + exact lens model when ordering. Use the "comments field" at checkout to specify anything you need.

Flat Port or Dome Port?

Both are available. A flat optical-glass port is an excellent starting point for general underwater and adverse-environment photography.

A dome becomes particularly useful for very wide-angle photography and for creating dramatic split-level or over/under images where the photograph includes subjects both above and below the waterline.

Outex optical-glass domes use interchangeable adapters for conventional threaded lenses and clamps for certain lenses without conventional filter threads. The port therefore conforms to the lens rather than leaving the lens positioned arbitrarily inside a large fixed housing.

Sony A6700 Video and Outex in Action

One of the easiest ways to understand the Outex system is to see how the flexible housing operates around a real camera.

The video helps illustrate the fundamental difference between Outex and a conventional rigid housing: the camera remains accessible through the flexible waterproof cover rather than being surrounded by camera-specific mechanical controls.

Tripods, Tethering, Lighting and Other A6700 Setups

The Sony A6700 can also be incorporated into more sophisticated Outex configurations.

The Tripod Add-on is useful for controlled underwater photography, pool work, remote positioning and situations where a fixed camera position is preferable.

For photographers and filmmakers who need a physical connection outside the housing, Outex's cable system allows compatible cables to pass through a waterproof adapter for applications involving data, power, video, audio, external displays or other equipment.

Lighting and triggering accessories can similarly be added to Pro configurations.

That makes the A6700 + Outex combination useful beyond recreational underwater photography—for example, controlled underwater productions, professional photography, filmmaking and other specialized imaging applications.

Can I use a dome with the Sony A6700?

Yes. Dome compatibility depends primarily on the lens and desired shooting configuration rather than the A6700 body itself.

Can I mount the A6700 on a tripod underwater?

Yes. Outex offers tripod-compatible Pro configurations and tripod add-on options.

Can I tether the Sony A6700 while it's protected by Outex?
