Outex Basic Dome Kit — Optical Glass Dome Port + Pro Waterproof Housing System

The Outex Basic Dome Kit gives you everything you need to shoot underwater and split-level (half-over, half-under) imagery with your camera — including the patented Outex Pro Cover, rear glass, and your choice of 120mm or 180mm optical glass dome port — waterproof to 10 metres / 33 feet. Trusted by award-winning photographers, filmmakers, and production professionals in more than 50 countries since 2010, Outex is the professional standard for universal waterproof camera housings, with a 4.7/5 satisfaction rating from a worldwide community of creators.

Like your camera, Outex is a system of interchangeable, compatible, modular parts that work together. Any cover works with any port — including domes — so you can expand your system at any time without replacing what you already own.

Select your cover size, dome size, and strap preference at checkout. Please use the comments field at checkout to share any additional sizing questions or special instructions — we review every order and will follow up if we need to confirm anything before shipping.

Dome Adaptors & Clamps — Additional Advantages

Dome adaptors conform to industry-standard filter thread sizes. Dome clamps attach to unthreaded lenses such as fisheye, permanently hooded, or curved lenses.

You can purchase additional dome adaptors and/or clamps from Parts at any time. They are interchangeable with the domes and position the lens in the optically optimal place — another key advantage over traditional housings. Unlike fixed-dome housings where your lens floats inside a static port, Outex dome ports move with the lens and are always in the right optical position for the lens in use.

Facts About Dome Ports

  • Made using optical glass — not plastic or acrylic
  • Accommodate all lenses, whether or not they have filter threads

If your lens has no filter threads — common with fisheye, curved, and hooded lenses — use the Outex Dome with a clamp attachment. Both dome sizes are universal and connect to your lens optimally using dome adaptors (which thread onto the lens) or clamps (which attach securely to the lens body). Additional adaptors or clamps can be purchased as your kit grows.

Dome vs. Flat Ports — Which Is Right for Your Shot?

Domes correct for aberrations that occur as light travels at different speeds above and below water, reducing distortion and restoring continuity at the waterline. All Outex ports, including domes, are made of optical glass.

Outex dome ports come pre-packaged in a neoprene protective case. The system is modular — use domes or flat ports interchangeably depending on your shot. Learn more in our Questions/FAQ pages, including this entry on dome advantages.

Dome Port Benefits Summary

  • Domes make it better — correct aberrations from light speed changes between air and water, reducing distortion and magnification for cleaner split-level and underwater images.
  • Size matters — the 180mm dome delivers the most optical benefit; the 120mm offers excellent value and greater portability. Larger domes also address minimum focal distance limitations for certain lenses.
  • Focal length matters — we recommend shorter, wider focal lengths for underwater work. Long focal lengths are impractical due to magnification, water clarity, and lighting constraints.
  • Glass is optically superior — all Outex ports and domes use American or European-made optical glass, outperforming plastic or acrylic in clarity, colour neutrality, and scratch resistance.
  • Universal fit protects your investment — adaptors for filter-threaded lenses, clamps for unthreaded lenses. Add the right fitting as your kit grows without replacing the dome.
  • Domes are ideal for split-level and underwater use — for rain, mist, beach, or land use, flat ports are lighter and more practical. Outex flat ports are nano-coated with oleophobic and hydrophobic film to reduce water adhesion. Learn more here.

Dome Size Guide

**120mm dome** — Compact, lighter, more portable. Great value for most underwater and split-level work.

**180mm dome** — Larger dome = better optical correction, especially for wide-angle lenses and split-level photography. Recommended for professional and demanding use. Heavier and bulkier than the 120mm.
