Outex Pro Kit Review: Professional RAW Video Cinematography with Nikon Z6 + Atomos

Nikon Ambassador Lucas Gilman Selects Outex for the World's First Consumer RAW Video Underwater Shoot

When Nikon, Atomos, and Apple partnered to showcase the first-ever consumer solution for RAW video recording, they wanted to make a statement. They asked renowned adventure photographer and Nikon Ambassador Lucas Gilman to create a showcase piece that would highlight this milestone in vivid, unmistakable ways.

Lucas built his production around the Nikon Z6 mirrorless camera, paired with a 14–30mm f/4 S and 24–70mm f/2.8 S, an Atomos Ninja recorder, and Apple ProRes RAW — capturing the first-ever consumer end-to-end native RAW video workflow from capture through delivery. To take the production underwater, he needed a housing system that could accommodate this combination of camera and external recorder. He found one: the Outex Camera Pro Kit.

"When it comes to underwater cinematography, Lucas quickly realized Outex may be the only solution available in the market. And it turned out to also be the best." The lightweight, flexible Outex system allowed Lucas to use the Nikon Z6 with the Atomos Ninja tethered and operational underwater — a configuration that traditional rigid housings simply cannot accommodate due to their fixed port and connector designs.

The result was the behind-the-scenes production debuted at the NAB Show 2019 — a landmark moment for consumer cinema, underwater imaging, and the modular Outex system.

The same system Lucas used for this production is available today. If you shoot with a Nikon Z-series mirrorless camera and want to take it underwater without sacrificing external recorders, tethering, or lens flexibility, the Outex Pro Kit is built for exactly this.
