Dome clamps are designed to secure lenses to the Domes 120mm and/or 180mm. Each dome is different, so clamps designed for one dome size 120mm do are not compatible with the dome 180mm.
Outex makes various clamp sizes for both domes, to support any/all lenses that do not have filter threads on them, such as wide angle, fixed-hood, or fisheye lenses. They are engineered that way to match ensure the domes are positioned perfectly in relation to the specific lens for optimal imaging performance and results. It does that in multiple ways:
- This design optimizes the optical positioning of the Outex dome port in relation to the lens, so there's no vignetting, reflections, refraction, or other interference common with many underwater housings where the port is independent of the lens and designed to match it.
- It becomes one with the lens in use, just like a filter, or polarizer would. It moves with the lens, so it remains in that best optical position at all focal lengths, or as the lens moves.
Like your camera & lens system, the Outex housing system is modular and made up of interchangeable, compatible parts. All/any of our ports, including the domes, are interchangeable and fit all/any of our covers and vice versa.
Dome clamps are also useful if/when you want to use polarizers or filters inside Outex. So instead of using a dome adapator inside the dome, you can use the lens' filter threads for the polarizer or filter, and use the dome clamp to secure it instead.
